By on May 11, 2012

Chennai Super Kings 127 for 6 (Raina 23, Morkel 18*, Anirudha 18*) beat Rajasthan Royals 126 for 6 (Hodge 33, Hilfenhaus 2-8) by four wickets…

Late charge by Anirudha Srikkanth (18 not out) and Albie Morkel (18 not out) helped Chennai Super Kings beat Rajasthan Royals by 4 wickets in an important Indian Premier League match at Sawai Mansingh stadium, Jaipur on Thursday.

Chasing 127-run target, Chennai lost wickets at regular intervals and looked in trouble before Anirudha and Albie changed the gear for the visitors.

Both the batsmen smashed two sixes and a four each and played identical six deliveries as the duo helped the defending champions achieved the modest target with 11 balls to spare.

Siddharth Trivedi (2-18) and Pankaj Singh (2-34) took two Chennai wickets each whereas Shane Watson (1-32) took one wicket.

For Chennai, Suresh Raina was the top scorer with 23 off 17 balls. Raina smashed five boundaries in his quick 17-ball innings.

Chennai lost opener Vijay for nought in the very first over against Rajasthan.

Pacer Shane Watson bowled four dot balls to Vijay before the fifth one hit the off-stump as he provided Royals a much needed early breakthrough.

Electing to bowl, Ben Hilfinhaus (2-8) led a discipline Chennai attack to help Super Kings restrict Rajasthan Royals to 126/6.

Rajasthan Royals lost three top-order batsmen inside nine overs as they failed to create any momentum amidst rain interruptions.

Brad Hodge (33) and Stuart Binny (27) tried to resurrect the Rajasthan innings but failed to built substantial partnerships in their innings.

Hodge hit a six and couple of fours in his 28-ball innings, whereas Binny smashed a six and three boundaries in his quick-fire 18 balls knock.

Chennai pacer Yo Mahesh supported impressive Hilfenhaus perfectly as he took 2 wickets for 21 runs in his four overs. Spinners Ravindra Jadeja (1-21) and Ravichandran Ashwin (1-13) also took a wicket each for Chennai.

Yo Mahesh struck in the ninth over to dismiss Ajinkya Rahane (17) and reduce hosts Royals to 40/3 in 8.4 overs.

The match was marred with rain interruptions.

Ben Hilfenhaus dismissed Shane Watson (5) and Rahul Dravid (4) to give Chennai early breakthroughs against Rajasthan.

Hilfenhaus gave the visitors early breakthrough as he dismissed Dravid in the second over to reduce the Royals to 6/1 in 1.5 overs.

The important IPL clash was stopped for almost 50 minutes by light drizzle soon after Chennai pacer Albie Morkel bowled the first ball of the match.

Earlier, Chennai skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to field against Rajasthan.

“With the rain around we chose to field as we want to have a better idea of the target,” Dhoni said after winning the toss.

Chennai have left out S Badrinath and Faf du Plessis, who are not well. Michael Hussey and S Anirudha will replace them in the playing eleven.

Rajasthan have made just one change in their playing eleven from last game, bringing in Brad Hodge in place of Owais Shah.
