IPL 2012 – RCB vs RR: Rajasthan Royals Thrash Royal Challengers Bangalore By 59 Runs

By on April 15, 2012

Rajasthan Royals 195 for 2 (Rahane 103*, Shah 60) beat 136 Royal Challengers Bangalore (Trivedi 4-25, Agarwal 34) by 59 runs…

After swashbuckling knocks from Ajikya Rahane and Owais Shah powered Rajasthan Royals to a massive 195/2, Siddharth Trivedi executed brilliant bowling to skittle out Royal Challengers Bangalore for 136, pulling off a sensational 59-run win for their side at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday.

After Pankaj Singh got rid of openers, Trivedi sent back AB de Villers (4), Virat Kohli (22), Saurabh Tiwary (17) and skipper Daniel Vettori (1) in quick succession to derail the hosts run-chase. He finished with an impressive figure of 4/23 in four overs

Earlier, Pankaj Singh got rid of both RCB openers Mayank Agarwal (34) and Chris Gayle (8) after Rajasthan Royals set a huge 196 for the home side.

Agarwal got Bangalore off to a flying start as he scored at more than ten runs per over to take the score past 40 in four overs. He made 21-ball-34, studded with three sixes and as many boundaries before falling to becoming first victim of Pankaj Singh.

Before the hosts could recover from the first blow, Pankaj struck again to bowl out Chris Gayle was seen struggling against the visitors’ attack.

Ajinkya Rahane slammed his maiden ton while Owais Shah destroyed Bangalore attack with his fiery 60 off just 26 balls to power Rajasthan Royals to a huge total.

Rahane’s century, which came off just 58 deliveries, was also the first by any player in this tournament. He remained unbeaten on 103 which was studded with twelve boundaries and five dazzling sixes.

He along with Shah tore apart Bangalore attack with big hits as they scored runs all over the ground.

Rajasthan Royals got off to a decent start as Rahane and Rahul Dravid took the score past 50 in eight overs after electing to bat against the hosts.

Rajasthan Royals skipper Rahul Dravid (25) succumbed to RCB captain Daniel Vettori after sharing 62-run stand for the first wicket with Rahane.

Shah then joined Rahane at the crease and went for a kill. The duo shared 121-run stand for the second wicket. Shah’s knock was studded with five sixes and as many boundaries.

Rajasthan brought in Pankaj Singh in place of Ankeet Chavan while Sreenath Arvind and Mohammad Kaif found place in the RCB squad.

Both teams are parroting the ‘it’s-a-long-tournament’ line but surely they will be desperate to stop their two-match losing streak, however early in the tournament it may be.
